Q: Where exactly are Yonderton House and McGill Cottage located?

A: Yonderton House is on Yonderton Farm, just outside the village of Dalrymple in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It’s nestled in peaceful, rolling green countryside yet just a short drive from Ayr and the coast. Just under an hour’s drive from Glasgow, there is so much to see and do in the area.

Q: Do I need a car?

A: We strongly recommend having a car to make the most of your stay and explore the surrounding area. There is plenty of parking on-site.

Q: What’s nearby?

A: Beautiful walking trails (including Ayrshire Costal Path) , world class golf courses, beaches, historic castles, and the towns of Ayr and Alloway (the birthplace of Robert Burns) are all nearby. Take a look here for places to visit and things to do.  If you have any question, just contact us.

Q: Do you allow dogs?

A: Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times whilst on the farm as we have livestock in the surrounding fields.

Q: Are the houses accessible access?

A: McGill Cottage is accessible as it is on one level and Yonderton House has a bedroom/bathroom on the ground floor.  Please contact us with your requirements and we will do our best to accommodate.

Q: What’s included in the rental?

A: The houses come fully equipped with fresh linens, towels, basic toiletries, kitchen essentials, and logs for the fire. You’ll also find some board games, books, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Q: Is there a minimum stay?

A: Yes, we typically have a 2-night/3-day minimum stay, but this may vary by season. Longer stays are welcome.

Q: Are the houses child-friendly?

A: Absolutely. We welcome children and can provide a high chair, travel cot, and some toys on request. Yonderton House has an external games room with table tennis, darts and a selection of games.  Please note, there is an unfenced river in the grounds, ½ mile away from the houses and both properties have log burners

Q: Will we hear or see animals during our stay?

A: You’ll likely hear birds, see grazing animals, and enjoy the peaceful rhythms of farm life — but the house is private and quiet.

Q. Are we allowed to look around the farm?

A: If you would like to take a look around the farm, do let us know.  We’d be delighted to give you a guided tour.

Q: Is there Wi-Fi?

A: Yes, fast and reliable Wi-Fi is available throughout the houses.

Q: Is there heating?

A: Yes, the houses are fully heated and both properties include cosy wood-burning stoves for chilly evenings.

Q: Is the kitchen fully equipped?

A: Yes – it includes an oven(s), hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and all the cookware and utensils you might need. There's also a BBQ available (charcoal not supplied). If you’d like further details, do let us know.

Q: Is there a laundry room?

A: Yes, there’s a washing machine, dryer, and clothes airer.

Q: Are there supermarkets or shops nearby?

A: There are small shops in Dalrymple – Spar  (5 mins by car), and larger supermarkets in Ayr (15–20 mins away).

Q: Can we fish in the river?

A: Yes, Salmon & Trout fishing is available in our mile stretch of the River Doon.  Permits can be purchased.  Please bring your own equipment.

Q: Are there good walks in the area?

A: Oh yes! We have plenty of beautiful walks in the area.

Q: Can you help organise activities for us?

A: Absolutely!  We have a private Chef who can visit the house.  We can also organise for treatments at the house (depending on availability) , Fishing lessons and Clay Pigeon Shoots.  Whatever activity you fancy, let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help.

Q: Do Supermarkets deliver?

A: Yes – Tesco, Asda and Morrisons have all delivered groceries here. Ayr has an M&S food Hall, Aldi and Lidl. The nearest Waitrose is at Newton Mearns (40 mins away) and does not deliver to our postcode at this time.

Q: Is there takeaway delivery?

A: The Chippy at Coylton will deliver to Yonderton / McGill for a small charge . Take away food can be ordered from the Hollybush Inn but this has to be collected.

Q: Is there storage for bicycles?

A: Bicycles can be stored in one of the secure barns on site
